Learn how to build strong hooding behavior with your bird of prey.

BIRD OF PREY HOODING

"It was so helpful to see the real life situations and learn the proper techniques!"

-Sandy C.

Do you really need to learn how to hood a bird of prey?
Does it help the bird or keep them in fear?

A falconry hood can be a critical tool in preventing problems because it can be so hard, if not impossible, to train a raptor to be calm in all circumstances.

This means when unpredictably scary stimuli arise and we have a raptor with us, it can associate us with the fearful situation, whether we choose to restrain it on the glove or it flies off, leaving us in a lose-lose scenario.

The Bird of Prey Hooding Course was created to help you learn this critical skill so you are prepared for future situations in which hooding can prevent future problems.

Solving your bird behavior challenges isn't about doing more of what ISN'T working. Change the way you look at your bird issues and you will change your results.

Difficult situations require a different strategy.

Trying to piece together a lot of random information from the internet can give you incomplete information, leaving you struggling and confused.

Unfortunately, your actions (or inactions) are literally influencing your bird's behaviors, making problems harder to fix.

CLASS OVERVIEW

What you will learn in the Bird of prey hooding

BUILD A STRONG HOODING BEHAVIOR FOR YOUR BIRD
For this course, we chose some of our most difficult birds to train to hood. Some hood training has taken us as little as five minutes or less to train, and some has taken a few weeks.

HOOD TRAINING WITH NEGATIVE & POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT
It cannot be understated that the manner in which a raptor is trained to wear the hood has a huge impact in the comfort that it exhibits. Hooding can be trained through choice-based training that includes positive reinforcement utilizing tidbits and negative reinforcement that uses distance to reinforce the desired response. Both have their merits and drawbacks. We will cover this inside the course
