Bringing home a new bird can be both exciting and stressful! With a new environment for them to adjust to, new people, and a new routine to learn, you need to make sure your bird is comfortable and that you are working together with them as a team.

In the beginning, one of the biggest challenges new bird owners face, is a lack of confidence in their own skills. This leads to confusion for your bird, and a lack of trust.

What you will learn in the Bringing a New Bird Home

    Course Bundle

Learn the fundamentals to bringing a new bird home...

Bringing home a new bird can be an exciting and stressful time. We are here to help you along the way and to talk about all of the tough questions and decisions to make with your new bird.

Before even bringing a new bird home, it is important to look at the environment you wish to have your bird in! This means cage set up, play areas and if you do truly need an outdoor aviary. We share some tips and tricks on how to keep your bird from destroying furniture, cabinets and your favorite home decor items.

Transition can be hard on anyone! This lesson focuses on how you can minimize stress and build positive relationships with your new bird in their new home.

It can be a very scary experience when you bring home a new bird and won’t eat the food that is in front of them. This is a common problem, and in this lesson we talk about why your bird isn’t eating and steps you can take to get them to eat!

The right time to introduce your parrot to new people takes observation of key body language behaviors. We teach you what to look for in this lesson. We also teach you best practices for long term success and how to keep it as stress free as possible.

Along with getting a new bird comes tough decisions that can be emotional and difficult to know what is best. Things like wing clipping and diet choice can affect your bird for life. We help you navigate through these choices so you can make the best decision for you and your bird.

The most important thing you can do with a new bird is to build trust. But if your bird is nervous, it can be difficult to do. Things like skill building and learning how to use space to develop trust is very important in the growth of your relationship with your parrot. These skills builds a foundation of behaviors to fall back on or to go to to seek information.

Cage set up is important to make sure we are setting our parrots up for success, whether its with desirable behavior but also feeling safe and comfortable. We show three different cage set ups with three very different birds.
