Solve your most stubborn bird behavior challenges using the key components of learning theory and behavior science.

The Problem Solving Paradigm

"It's amazing how much you can accomplish once you are able to communicate with your bird in a way they understand! I had no idea I was getting in my own way.
Do yourself a favor and get this course!"
-Teresa C.

Have you ever been trying to train your bird a new skill, and LIFE just gets in the way???

Whether it's family members, outside construction, the mailman -

uncontrollable variables that happen in everyday life can get in the way of progress.

Life happens! We get it and while you may think you have to be training your bird  24/7 to move forward, that simply is not realistic or necessary!

The Problem Solving Paradigm was created to help you manage really complex and sometimes uncontrollable variables.

This is an algorithm we developed at Avian Behavior International after working with thousands of birds and their handlers.

Instead of focusing on just positive reinforcement, we are going to teach you how to use mutually beneficial behaviors and apply realistic methodologies that fit your environment and skill level to realize ACTUAL behavioral change.

THIS SYSTEM IS ABOUT BREAKING FREE FROM HABITUAL BEHAVIORS THAT MAY NOT HAVE SUITED YOUR SITUATION, AND INSTEAD PRODUCE PREDICTABLE OUTCOMES.

Solving your bird behavior challenges isn't about doing more of what ISN'T working. Change the way you look at your bird issues and you will change your results.

Whether you have been training birds for years or are just getting started, you will encounter problem behaviors that you just can't seem to fix.

To make it worse, you try piecing together a lot of random information from the internet, and rely on "tried and true" methodologies that aren't specific to your situation and NOT working for you or your situation.

Unfortunately, your actions (or inactions) are literally influencing your bird's behaviors, making stubborn problems harder to fix.

When we are faced with a problem behavior, the fundamental truth to keep in mind is that we can’t change the behavior itself,  but we CAN change the conditions the behavior occurs in.

Only then do we see actual behavior change. When we keep providing the same environmental conditions, we will see the same behavior play out.

When we have problem behavior that has become extreme, meaning perhaps we have very few if any windows of mutually beneficial behavior, it can feel really daunting. Where do we even begin?

Here's the truth... the more your birds do something, the more they do something. The more they bite, the more they bite. The more they retreat and avoid you, the more they avoid you. The more a parrot talks (and gets a dramatic reaction from us) the more they talk.

Changing stubborn problem behaviors requires a DIFFERENT level of thinking.

In the Problem Solving Paradigm, you are going to learn how to use the key components of learning theory and behavior science to:

    • Create value in mutually beneficially behaviors
    • Build skills to that raise up your bird’s level of fluency with beneficial behaviors overall
    • Allow you to understand your role in the bird’s behavioral repertoire
    • Apply realistic methodologies that fit your environment and skill level to realize actual behavioral change

This course focuses on helping you retrain your own brain from fixed patterns that aren't serving you, while helping you see your bird challenges from a different point of view so you can solve ANY challenge despite the situation or circumstance.

‘I have learned much from your webinars and classes. I would highly recommend Avian Behavior for anyone interested in building a solid foundation in bird training.”

    CLASS OVERVIEW

What you will learn in the Problem Solving Paradigm

LEARN THE KEY COMPONENTS OF LEARNING THEORY AND BEHAVIOR SCIENCE
Using the key components of learning theory and behavior science, you will understand how to view motivation, reinforcement, retention, and transference to solve everything from simple to complex problems.

    ADOPTING A NEW MINDSET
As with any change regimen, the beginning stages take effort. We are re-training our own brain from habits that may not have suited us, but produced predictable outcomes. We may have even worn deep grooves in to these tracks of behavior patterns by rehearsing the behavior-consequence exchange for years. In this module, you will learn how to break old habitual thinking, create new habits, and get comfortable in a different mindset.

    LEARN PREVENTION STRATEGIES
The first step in our problem solving algorithm is to prevent the problem behavior from happening. Prevention is not the same as stopping the behavior once it starts. Prevention means that we don’t even want the bird to come into contact with the cues that set the behavior off in the first place.

    TEACH REPLACEMENT SKILLS
Once you learn prevention strategies, the next component of sustainable behavior change is identifying skills that the bird has or needs to have that they can do instead of the problem behavior that are equally as valuable to them as the problem behavior is.

    TRAINING FOR LONG TERM SUCCESS
Once we have set up our foundation, assessed our contingencies, and built some skills, we have essentially been working in a heavily structured training environment. Now we need to transition to our natural environment. This lesson not only focuses on our bird’s behavior, but walks us through step by step how to assess session intervals, plan for setbacks and what to do when things go wrong, and gives us a robust chance for success.

How this course sets you up for success

We know it can feel intimidating to change your own paradigm of training and do things in ways that you aren't accustomed to. Especially with all of the information available online, the different styles and behavior philosophies, it can send you down a confusing, one way rabbit hole.

But on the other side, when you know how to see things from a different perspective, get real results by applying a different way of thinking, you will have more confidence in your own skills and intuition, and be able to solve other challenges in the future yourself!

    Have questions?

Here are some of our commonly asked questions.

How long does it take to complete this course?

This course has 5 modules. Everybody's learning pace is different, but if you set a goal to watch one lesson a day, it should take you about a week to finish the course bundle. We recommend you go at your own pace and watch lessons multiple times if need be to really understand the concept.

What format is this course in?

The course is on demand streaming video. It includes step by step, guided examples of the content we provide, with proven results from our decades of experience.

How will this course help me solve my bird challenges?

The problem solving paradigm will help you see your bird challenges from a different perspective, allowing you to change your approach and get the results you want. So often we get caught up in "one way" habitual ways of doing things. For example, many people teach "positive reinforcement" as the only way to solve bird issues. But that is limited in the results it can bring, and may keep you in a loop of bad behavior, brought on by repetition of a method that is't working.

How long will it take to see results?

Once you start applying what you learn in these courses, you will start seeing results and you'll have the confidence knowing you are setting your bird up for success.

My bird's behavior issues were really out of control. You not only helped me fix those issues, but you helped me build a bond with my bird. And that's priceless!
